We really love making people laugh here at The Comedy Club and 2011 is set to be funnier than ever. Not only are there new Comedy Club shows in Maryport, Dumfries and Bexhill coming in January and February but you will also find a whole host of new fantastic comedians ready for the best live comedy venues in the country.
Comedians, laughs and jokes aren’t just about live entertainment though. British television saw thousands of new hours of new comedy appearing on our screens and this comedy is transfering to the silver screen too. Following the success of 3 fun and laughter filled series of Inbetweeners on E4/Channel 4, news has been leaked of the plot for the summer comedy film release of Inbetweeners, the film. All you need to know is that the 4 lads head to Malia for a laughter packed adventure and all doesn’t run smoothly!
In other comedy and comedian related news, The British Comedy Awards announced they are offering tickets to the event to the general public for the first time in the event’s 21 year history. The changes come in sync with a move to Channel 4 with The British Comedy Awards being aired live on 22nd January from the o2 Arena. Tickets for The British Comedy Awards are available from £40 here and the night promises jokes, laughter, big special guests and of course homage to the huge wealth of comedy talent and comedians Britain has to offer.

Comedy Club News Snapshot

It’s been a contentious week in the world of comedy with entertainment news filled with both uproar and delight landing on the breakfast table in only a matter of hours. The bad bits…television favourite and stand-up comedian Steve Coogan is at the centre of a major legal dispute with The News of the World. The news dates back to February 2005 and August 2006 when Steve Coogan’s phone was reportedly hacked, leading to alegations he was the father of Courtney Love’s unborn child. (Comic Coogan and actress Love both denied this and no baby was born). More controversial comedy news includes Frankie Boyle making an offensive and sick joke abouth Harvey, Jordan and Dwight Yorke’s child. The controversy comes as Channel 4 aired the joke in full on Tuesday from which Ofcom received 50 complaints, the same episode of the comedy based Tramadol Nights was then repeated with no edit made to the joke, prompting Twitter responses and more from Jordan and her fans.
In shorter and better spirited comedy industry news, Scouse stand-up comedian John Bishop and his DVD ‘John Bishop: Elvis Has Left The Building‘ has remained as the best selling comedy DVD for the eigth week running. ‘Billy Connolly: Live in London’ is this week’s No.2 stand-up comedy DVD rising 2 places. More news includes Comedy Club comedian and Mock the Week TV favourite Milton Jones pitching a new pilot comedy panel show for Dave with Pozzitive productions backing thr show. A panel of 3 comedians each show will become spoof lecturers in their given topic starting with Alun Cochrane, Andi Osho and Will Smith.
And finally…time for a bit of comedy corporate comedy ‘cleaning up’. It was reported this week on a popular comedy news distributing site that a corporate comedian performing at the Bournemouth Royal Bath Hotel was told to leave the stage by the very people he was trying to make laugh. Comedian Scott Charlton was booked to perform for Nationwide but turned on the client applying derogatory ‘banker jokes’. The corporate event and comedian booked had nothing to do with The Comedy Club, although we do hold regular, enjoyable shows at the venue.

Geoff Norcott Interviews Cricketing Legend Shane Warne

‘Geoff Norcott has been continuing to mix it with sporting stars on ‘The 888 Show’ on channel one (formerly Virgin One). This week Geoff had a chance to catch up with cricketer and the greatest ever spin bowler Shane Warne. The show, which goes out Friday 1st October at midnight, sees Geoff chatting to Warne about the upcoming Ashes series and poker. The cricketing great was very complimentary about Geoff, commenting, ‘Geoff did a really great job.’
